In the quiet village of Barundani Panchayat, nestled in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district, lives a remarkable man whose story is nothing short of inspiring. Shri Bhanwarlal Khatik, a 75-year-old grassroots leader, has dedicated the last 26 years to social upliftment and environmental conservation. His journey is a testament to how unwavering determination and a deep love for nature can transform entire communities.

Reviving Barren Lands with Collective Action
It all began in 2002 when Shri Bhanwarlal was nominated as the President of the Village Security Management Committee in Talai Ka Jhopda village. With a vision to rejuvenate the village's common land, he encouraged villagers to contribute 25 days each to community welfare. Together, they embarked on an ambitious mission to restore their degraded lands through soil and water conservation efforts.

Partnering with the Foundation for Ecological Society (F.E.S.), the community planted a variety of trees including Amla, Neem, Dhok, and Adulsa. What was once barren land soon transformed into lush greenery, becoming a source of pride and livelihood for the villagers.

As the Vice President of Paryavaran Premi Samaj Mahasangh in Mandalgarh Tehsil, he played a pivotal role in strengthening rural institutions. Serving as a Mate in the MNREGA program, Shri Bhanwarlal ensured that community resources were restored and protected. His initiatives provided sustainable access to fodder, firewood, and forest products, enhancing the livelihoods of countless villagers without compromising the local ecology.
